Student selected for international orchestra
Josh Van Der Maaten, a Northwestern junior from Orange City, has been selected to perform in the 2007 World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) International Youth Wind Orchestra. The ensemble will play at the WASBE’s international conference in Killarney, Ireland, July 8 to 15.
Dr. Kim Jongerius, professor of mathematics, presented a paper recently at the conference of the Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences.
Northwestern has received a $14,400 grant from Humanities Iowa for “Minding Place,” a weeklong symposium that will take place next April, during the college’s 125th anniversary year.

Koene speaks to area retired pastors and missionaries
Piet Koene, instructor in Spanish, gave a presentation to the Association of Retired RCA Pastors and Missionaries in Rock Valley, Iowa.
Dr. Ruth Daumer, associate professor and chairperson of the department of nursing, has had her research on the experience of clergy health published in the spring 2007 issue of Health Ministry Journal.
Elizabeth Heeg-Truesdell, visiting assistant professor of biology, has earned her doctoral degree.

Yoder research presented at Amish conference
Research by Dr. Michael Yoder, professor of sociology/anthropology, was presented at The Amish in America conference held at Pennsylvania's Elizabethtown College June 7 to 9.
Two recent social work graduates have been accepted into graduate schools.
