Barker active in summer projects

Jeff Barker, professor of theatre and speech at Northwestern College, has been involved in a variety of scholarly projects this summer.

In June, he assisted with the first presentation of his play Kin in Carrie Buck's home state of Virginia. The show was produced by Sundial Theatre Company near Washington, D.C. The grand prize winner of the 2002 New Voices Iowa Playwrights Competition, Kin is the story of Carrie Buck, whose 1920s Supreme Court case legalized involuntary sterilization for persons deemed “socially inadequate."

Barker also lectured in several schools and churches in Japan concerning the ancient plays of Israel and completed a chapter for a Calvin Institute of Christian Worship book on intergenerational worship. The volume is scheduled to be released in January 2008.
