Northwestern College to host Nursing Mini-Camp

Northwestern College will host a Nursing Mini-Camp for high school juniors and seniors considering careers in nursing. The day camp will be held Thursday, Jan. 26, from 8:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Jointly presented by the college’s nursing and admissions departments, the camp will serve the needs of both students and parents. Activities will include the opportunity to learn some nursing skills during a simulated clinical experience,  a campus tour, and a luncheon with current nursing students and faculty.

“For those interested in nursing as a future profession, the Nursing Mini-Camp provides an opportunity to experience aspects of Northwestern College’s nursing program firsthand,” says Dr. Julie Dragstra, chair of the nursing department. “It is a fun and informative way to network with nursing students and faculty to learn more about obtaining a B.S.N. degree.”

Information will be presented about career opportunities, financial aid and admission at Northwestern. A question-and-answer session will be offered for both students and parents.

Interested high school juniors and seniors must pre-register by Friday, Jan. 13. Space is limited.

Northwestern’s nursing department offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (B.S.N.) with both a four-year and an R.N.-B.S.N. option. The college’s Nursing Arts Laboratory includes advanced human patient simulators. Distinctive features of Northwestern’s nursing program include being based on a biblical model of health and healing, more than 700 hours of clinical experience, and multiple opportunities for healthcare-related mission projects.

Northwestern’s nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and approved by the Iowa Board of Nursing.
