Administrator named president of nursing association

Dr. Ruth Daumer, an associate professor of nursing and chair of the nursing department at Northwestern College, has been elected president of the Iowa Association of Colleges of Nursing (IACN).

The IACN is the state affiliate of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, a national organization that sets standards, provides resources and develops leadership to advance nursing education, research and practice. Members of IACN are the deans of undergraduate and graduate schools of nursing in the state of Iowa.

Daumer will begin her one-year term in August. A member of Northwestern’s faculty since 2005, she was hired by the college to establish a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. In 2009 the program was accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and graduated its first class of nurses, all of whom passed their nursing board exams and are members of healthcare teams in hospitals across the United States. A year later, Northwestern’s department of nursing received full approval from the Iowa Board of Nursing.

Daumer has a doctoral degree in educational administration from the University of South Dakota. She earned an M.S.N. from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and a B.S.N. from Briar Cliff. She is licensed as an advanced registered nurse practitioner/clinical specialist in community health nursing.
