NWC student directors present evening of one-acts

Northwestern College directing students will present eight short plays Wednesday, Dec. 6, beginning at 5:45 p.m. in the England Theatre of the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center. The plays are 10 to 20 minutes in length and will be presented in succession. The performances are free; community members are invited.

“Red Carnations,” about two boutonniere-wearing men, both waiting to meet a blind date, will be directed by junior Randyl Lynn Getz.

Senior Jessica Askeland will direct “Fool’s Gold.” The comedy stars a greedy master and two plotting servants navigating a treasure map.

“Perfect” is perfectly timely as it explores whether love can withstand opposing political leanings. It will be directed by junior Hannah Wamhoff.

Senior Eric Van Der Linden will direct “Her Heart,” a scene from “Almost Maine” about mystery and romance.

 “While the Auto Waits,” set in the 1920s, is also about mystery and romance. It will be directed by senior Kristen Samek.

“What Was,” about grief and memories, will take the stage under the direction of junior Becky Ochoa.

Junior Sara Trease will direct “The French Cabinetmaker.” The comedy stars two suitors with opposite personalities, trying to win the hand of one woman.

“Boxed In,” about an employee convinced she can’t be fired if she can’t be found, will be directed by senior Liz Meier.

The one-acts are produced as the student-directors’ final exams with peers as actors and minimal staging.
