Northwestern College theatre to present The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Thursday, September 15, 2016
C.S. Lewis’ “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” a beloved allegorical story suitable for the whole family, will be presented by Northwestern College theatre Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. The play will be performed in the Allen Theatre.
The cast is also presenting “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” to schoolchildren every Tuesday and Thursday from Sept. 29 to Nov. 15.
In the play, four World War II refugee siblings travel through a magic wardrobe into the land of Narnia, where wise, wily and whimsical creatures involve them in an epic battle between the White Witch and Aslan the lion.
Northwestern theatre professor April Hubbard, who is directing the performance, says that Joseph Robinette’s stage adaptation has condensed Lewis’s best-known “Chronicles of Narnia” book into an action-packed hour that can be enjoyed both by adventure-lovers and audience members who appreciate the allegorical truths conveyed.
The 17-member cast includes freshman Charlie Hubbard, Orange City, who will play Aslan and Mikayla Dehnke, a junior from Clive, Iowa, who has the role of the White Witch. The four siblings are being played by senior Logan Wright, Council Bluffs, Iowa; sophomore Randyl Lynn Getz, Urbandale; and freshmen Alexander Lowry, Drexel Hill, Pa., and Andrew Rinne, Burchard, Neb.
Tickets for “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” are $8 for adults and $4 for students. The shows take place during Northwestern College’s Raider Days Homecoming celebration and are free for alumni and their family members. Tickets are available starting Sept. 19 for Theatre Patrons and Sept. 20 through Oct. 1 for the general public.
Tickets can be reserved at www.nwciowa.edu/tickets or by visiting the DeWitt Theatre box office between 5 and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday or between 1 and 4 p.m. on Saturday. The box office can also be reached by phone, 712-707-7098, or e-mail, boxoffice@nwciowa.edu.
