Wednesday, November 26, 2014
Northwestern College directing students will present eight short plays Dec. 11 and 12 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Allen Theatre of the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center. The plays are 10 to 30 minutes in length. Community members are invited.
“Electric Roses,” a drama about domestic violence and remorse, will be directed by senior Amber Beyer.
Senior Brianne Hassman will direct “And Hannah Prayed,” from the biblical text about a childless woman who makes a bargain with God.
“The Longest Rehearsal,” about play practices where everything goes wrong, will be directed by senior Theresa Larrabee.
Senior Jana Latchaw will direct “The Actor’s Nightmare.” The absurd comedy stars an accountant who is mistaken for an actor’s understudy and finds himself on stage because “the show must go on.”
Senior Hana Spangler will direct “The Man Who Turned into a Stick,” a science fiction comedy in which agents reporting on the man-to-stick transformation are impeded by clueless hippies.
“Esther’s People,” from the biblical story of Queen Esther, will take the stage under the direction of junior Abby McCubbin.
“Be Alright,” a drama about a couple in conflict, will be directed by junior Kyle TenHulzen.
Junior Gerrit Wilford will direct “Loyalties,” which will explore the ways in which loyalty can obscure truth.
The one-acts are produced as the student-directors’ final exams with peers as actors and minimal staging. They will be presented in quick succession with an intermission halfway through the three-hour event.
