Grev and Shuka to perform student recital at Northwestern College

Northwestern College seniors Benjamin Grev and Matthew Shuka each will perform during a vocal recital on Sunday, April 14, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

Grev’s recital will feature a variety of pieces including Italian, German and English arias as well as musical theatre pieces. His set list includes “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables” from “Les Misérables” and “Agony” from “Into the Woods.” Grev is a music education major from Odin, Minn. The son of David and Kendra, he is also a member of Northwestern’s A cappella Choir, Heritage Singers and Symphonic Band, where he plays the baritone horn.

Shuka’s recital will include Italian, German, French, Russian and English sets, featuring music from composers Ralph Vaughan Williams, Henri Duparc and others. Shuka will also perform the dramatic Russian piece “Lensky’s Aria” from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s opera “Eugene Onegin.” The son of Robert and Rebecca, Shuka is a vocal music and secondary education major from Ames, Iowa. He is also a member of the college’s worship team, A cappella Choir and Heritage Singers and he wrestles for the Red Raiders.

Both men will be accompanied by Dr. Daniel Huey, who teaches music at Northwestern College. The concert will close with two duets sung by Shuka and Grev.
