Northwestern musicians perform in Iowa Intercollegiate Honor Band

Ten members of the Northwestern College Symphonic Band recently performed in the 100-member Iowa Intercollegiate Honor Band.

The honor band, composed of the best woodwind, brass and percussion students enrolled in 18 colleges and universities throughout the state, gathered at the Josephine Tope Community Auditorium in Nevada, Iowa, on Nov. 19. The band presented a concert under the direction of Dr. William Wakefield, professor of music and director of bands at the University of Oklahoma School of Music.

The Northwestern honorees were nominated by Dr. Timothy McGarvey, professor of music. For Lynae Dadisman, a junior mathematics major from Wes Des Moines, Iowa, this was her second time performing with the band. 

Also selected for this year’s honor were flutists Jayde Logemann, a sophomore writing/rhetoric major from Ankeny, Iowa, and Ellen Podhajsky, a junior Spanish major from Marshalltown, Iowa; clarinetists Victoria Horn, a junior literature and writing/rhetoric major from Morrison, Ill., and Betsy Huyser, a sophomore psychology major from Orange City, Iowa; horn players Dani Duistermars, a senior sociology major from Orange City, and Eden Burch, a junior nursing major from Garretson, S.D.; trumpeters Rachel Volk, a senior mathematics major from Sioux Falls, S.D., and Eric Wasson, a junior business administration/finance and management major from Omaha, Neb.; and Andrew Currier, a senior music major from Ottawa, Kan., on percussion and piano.
