Northwestern College senior Amanda Vander Stelt will perform a student recital on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.
Vander Stelt will open the recital with two pieces by Henry Purcell, including “Hark! How All Things With One Sound Rejoice” from the semi-opera “The Fairy Queen” and “If Music Be the Food of Love.” She will also perform three of Edvard Grieg’s “6 Songs,” including “Il Rosentiden (A Time for Roses),” “En Dröm (A Dream)” and “Hilsen (Greeting Words) Op. 48.” All three songs from the set will be sung in Norwegian.
Following performances of Roger Quilter’s “Love’s Philosophy,” “By the Sea” and “Come Back,” Vander Stelt will sing Gioachino Rossini’s “Non Piu Mesta” from La Cenerentola (Cinderella). She will also perform Kurt Weill’s “Berlin Im Licht,” “Je Ne T’aime Pas” and “Speak Low.” The concert will conclude with a rendition of Zina Goldrich’s “The Alto’s Lament.”
Vander Stelt is a music major and the daughter of Bruce and Kristina Vander Stelt of Orange City. The winner of the 2015 Marion Hinds Hospers Vocal Competition, she sings in both the A cappella Choir and Heritage Singers and plays saxophone in the college’s Symphonic Band.
