Northwestern College chamber ensembles to present concert

Northwestern College chamber ensembles will present a concert Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

The concert will include performances by a brass quintet and woodwind quintet. The ensembles will perform a wide variety of music.

Under the instruction of Dr. Tim McGarvey, professor of music, the brass quintet will perform “Valse” by Francis Poulenc, “Scherzo” by John Cheetham and “Grand Valley Fanfare” by Eric Ewazen. The ensemble will also perform John Haddad’s “Jazz Etude,” J.S. Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” and Christian hymn “This is My Father’s World.”

The woodwind quintet, also under the instruction of McGarvey, will perform “Weeping Willow” by Scott Joplin, “Roaring Fork” by Eric Ewazen and “New England Countryside” by Aaron Copland. The group will also present Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Quintet in E flat major” and “Shepherd’s Hey” by Percy Grainger.
