Northwestern ensembles to perform concert

Northwestern College’s Chamber Orchestra and Women’s Choir will perform a concert Friday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

The Chamber Orchestra, directed by Dr. Juyeon Kang, associate professor of music, will perform movements from classical pieces of music, including “Le Matin” by Franz Joseph Haydn and “Suite for Strings” by Carl Nielsen. The orchestra will also perform “Finlandia” by Jean Sibelius in conjunction with the Women’s Choir.

The Women’s Choir, directed by Susan LeMahieu, will perform numerous faith-based pieces, including “I Am Not Yours” by David Childs; “Saints Bound for Heaven,” arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw; “Eatnemen Vuelie (Fairest Lord Jesus)” by Frode Fjellheim; and “Psalm 23” by Z. Randall Stroope, featuring student soloists Kelsey Morisch on oboe and Nicole Openorth on flute. The choir will also perform “Yo Le Canto Todo El Dia” by David Brunner; a Japanese children’s song, “Hotaru Koi,” arranged by Ro Ogura; and “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day,” arranged by John Rutter, featuring student Thea DeWaard, soprano.
