Northwestern students to present recital

Northwestern College seniors Sarah Odom and Sarah Stofer will present voice and instrumental music recitals on Saturday, April 12, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 13, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The events are free and open to the public, and will be followed by receptions.

Odom is a vocal performance and writing and rhetoric major from Northwood, Iowa, and will perform on Saturday, April 12. She sings alto in the A cappella Choir and Heritage Singers. Odom’s vocal presentation will include a variety of pieces by composers such as Robert Shumann, Antonio Vivaldi, Claude Debussy and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, among others. Songs include “Practically Perfect,” from the Broadway musical “Mary Poppins” by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, and “Jabberwocky” by Lee Hoiby.

“I consider myself a storyteller, so I am excited to tell stories through various forms of vocal repertoires,” says Odom. “I have worked hard interpreting what each song means so that I can convey the message the composer intended to the audience.”

Stofer is a music performance major from Camanche, Iowa, and will perform on Sunday, April 13. She is a member of the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Sunday night Praise and Worship team, Chamber Orchestra and Northwest Iowa Symphonic Orchestra. Stofer, a trombonist, will perform “Grand Concerto” by Friedebald Gräfe and “The Swan” by Camille Saint-Saëns. Others include works by Arthur Pryor, J.E Barat and Tielman Susato.

“This recital is a chance for me to share with family, friends and fellow musicians what I have learned, and to perform the repertoire that I have been working on throughout the year,” says Stofer.
