Northwestern students to present joint recital

Northwestern College senior Megan Rustad and junior Matt Honken will perform a vocal and instrumental music recital on Sunday, April 6, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

Rustad is a vocal music education major from Spencer, Iowa, and is a member of the A cappella Choir, Heritage Singers and Symphonic Band. A soprano, she will sing a variety of pieces by composers such as Cole Porter, Leonard Bernstein, Manuel de Falla and George Gershwin, among others. Songs include “Nuit d’étoiles” by Claude Debussy and “Ach, ich fühl’s” by W.A. Mozart.       

“I have been preparing for my recital since the summer and am overjoyed at the opportunity to share my love of music with my family and friends here,” says Rustad.

Honken is a music education major from Sibley, Iowa, and will perform on the trombone as part of the joint recital. He is involved in Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Chamber Orchestra, the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra and the A cappella Choir. Honken will perform “Fantastic Polka” by Arthur Pryor, “Cavatine” by Camille Saint-Saëns, and “Sonatina” by Kazimierz Serocki. Others include works by Benedetto Marcello and Carl Maria von Weber.

Additionally, Rustad and Honken will perform a duet by Irving Berlin, “Anything You Can Do,” from the musical “Annie Get Your Gun.”

“I’m really excited to share this great variety of music with those who come to the recital,” says Honken. “The program contains a wide range of emotion, passion and fun.”
