NWC seniors to perform recital

Northwestern College seniors Yukiko Higashino and Ashley Wielenga will perform at a student recital on Wednesday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.
Higashino, a music major from Osaka, Japan, with a minor in teaching English as a second language, will play the piano. She takes lessons from Dr. Juyeon Kang, associate professor of music. Higashino is the recipient of several scholarships from the music department.
Higashino will perform several pieces that include “Italian Concerto” by Bach, “Piano Sonata No.13” by Franz Schubert and two works from Claude Debussy’s “Children’s Corner.”
Wielenga, an instrumental music education major from Sioux Center, will play the violin. She takes lessons from Lisa Miedema, lecturer in music. A 2010 graduate of MOC-Floyd Valley High School, Wielenga is a recipient of the Boyd MOC-FV Scholarship and a music performance scholarship. She is the daughter of Brian and Lisa Schutt, Alton.
She will perform several songs, including “Sei Sonatine” by Georg Philipp Telemann, “Concerto in G Major” by Joseph Haydn, “Adoration” by Felix Borowski and “Roumanian Folk Dances” by Béla Bartók.
