NWC to present student recital

A vocal recital will be given by Northwestern College student Kelby Robinson Sunday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

Robinson, hailing from Luverne, Minn., is a senior majoring in music and elementary education with a secondary education endorsement. She is the recipient of the Anna Laura Lensink Endowed Music Scholarship and a music activity award. The soprano receives vocal instruction under Cindy Moeller, lecturer in music.

To display the vocal abilities Robinson has developed at Northwestern, she and Moeller selected a variety of music to perform. Spanning three languages, Robinson’s program will include art songs, opera, ballads and jazz.

The pieces Robinson will sing include George Gershwin’s “Fascinating Rhythm,” “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “I Got Rhythm,” and Gioachino Rossini’s “Il Rimprovero,” “L’invito” and “Assisa á pié d’un salice” from Othello. Robinson will also sing “Wie Melodien zieht es mir” by Johannes Brahms, “An die Musik” by Franz Schubert, “Strings in the Earth and Air” by Richard Hundley and her personal favorite, “Laurie’s Song” by Aaron Copland.

“‘Laurie’s Song’ is the story of a girl who grew up on a Midwestern farm and is about to leave her home,” Robinson says. “All the lyrics are her thoughts about going out into the world. It’s very appropriate for a senior recital.”
