Katie Hielkema, a Northwestern College senior, will present a student recital on Sunday, April 10, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The public is invited to attend.
Hielkema, a secondary music education major from Gahanna, Ohio, will play a variety of compositions on the flute and piccolo. The concert will include pieces by Kevin Baker, Bach, Mozart, Handel, Ernesto Köhler and Franz Doppler.
Staff accompanist Lori Vande Brake will accompany on the piano for most of the selections, and sophomore Erica Bauserman will sing for one piece.
Hielkema said that her time at Northwestern has taught her how to glorify God with her music. “After playing in local churches, in chapel and in my recitals, I hope to be able to inspire people who hear my music.” After graduation, Hielkema hopes to find a job as a middle school band director.
