Band to present touring concert in Christ Chapel
Wednesday, March 2, 2011
Northwestern College’s Symphonic Band will perform their touring concert in Christ Chapel on Friday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m.
The ensemble will perform eight musical pieces. Among them is Sanctuary, by Frank Ticheli, a composition that musically expresses rest, solitude and protection. Exultate, by Samuel Hazo, is an energetic piece that is a technical showcase for the band, says conductor Dr. Timothy McGarvey, professor of music.
The concert will conclude with The Red Machine by Peter Graham. The piece was written for a London-based regimental band called the Cold Stream Guard, the official band for the changing of the royal guard. Listeners will hear strains of A Mighty Fortress is Our God.
The 53-member Symphonic Band has performed across the U.S. and in Central and South America. Band members are performing and participating in community service in the Pacific Northwest March 5–15.
