Matthew Latchaw, a Northwestern College senior computer information systems major from Oskaloosa, Iowa, has been awarded a $4,500 Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship to enable him to participate in Northwestern’s Oman Semester this spring.
The Gilman Scholarship program provides grants for U.S. undergraduates who are pursuing academic studies abroad—study that will better prepare them to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world.
Scholarship recipients are chosen through a competitive selection process that considers factors such as academic standing and financial need. The congressionally funded program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the Department of State and is administered by the Institute of International Education.
Latchaw is among six students who will study in the Middle Eastern country of Oman January through May.
