Professor's poem published

A poem by Weston Cutter, assistant professor of English at Northwestern College, is included in the autumn issue of the Southern Review.

“The Former Pirate on His Way Back to Lisbon” is Cutter’s contribution to the issue, which concludes the journal’s 75th anniversary. Founded by Robert Penn Warren and Cleanth Brooks, the Southern Review is published quarterly on the campus of Louisiana State University.

Cutter’s poem was also reposted on Verse Daily, a website which features a single poem every day.

Cutter joined Northwestern’s English faculty in 2009. His poems, fiction, essays, book reviews, and interviews with writers and musicians have been published in numerous journals and magazines. He received a $2,500 Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Prize in February. He was included in Best New Poets 2008, and his poetry has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize four years in a row.

Cutter earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from Virginia Tech and a bachelor’s degree in English from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota. He teaches creative and nonfiction writing at Northwestern and also advises the Beacon student newspaper.
