Modern Foreign Languages Faculty

Northwestern College seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank in our modern foreign languages department to begin August 2025. The successful candidate can expect to teach courses in applied Spanish language and Hispanic cultures. The teaching load for this position is 24 credit hours per academic year, normally three to four courses per semester. Teaching expectations may include beginning and intermediate Spanish language and culture, plus upper-level courses in Spanish for the professions (health care, social work, business and/or STEM), Spanish for heritage speakers, translation, and conversation.

Required Qualifications: Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Spanish or Hispanic studies with a specialization in linguistics, Hispanic cultures, translation, interpretation or a closely related area. Near-completion ABDs will also be considered. The successful candidate will have native or near-native fluency of Spanish and also demonstrate a keen ability to connect with our vibrant undergraduate students, sustain an active program of scholarship, and contribute to the life of the institution through faculty committees and other co-curricular service.

Preferred Qualifications: Our department is excited to welcome a new colleague who is devoted to providing our students with the personalized attention befitting a small, faith-based institution. Strongest consideration shall be given to those who can also contribute to our First-Year Seminar course, which is required of all incoming students during their first semester.
