Northwestern professor speaks at seminary

Dr. John Hubers, associate professor of biblical and theological studies and director of global education at Northwestern College, was one of the speakers during the Founders Week celebration at New Brunswick Theological Seminary (NBTS) in New Jersey on Oct. 5.

Hubers was part of a panel titled “Send Them, Apostles: NBTS as the Birthplace of Reformed Church in America (RCA) Missions.” He presented “An Unexpected Harvest: Zwemer, Cantine and What They Have Wrought,” telling the stories of NBTS alumni Samuel Zwemer and James Cantine, who established a Christian missionary presence in the Middle East in the late 1800s. Joining Hubers in the session were Dr. John Coakley, the L. Russell Feakes Professor of Church History emeritus at New Brunswick; Derrick Jones, supervisor of RCA mission in Africa and Oman; and Eri Kitada, a doctoral student at Rutgers University.

Hubers, a member of Northwestern’s faculty since 2010, served with the RCA mission program in the Middle East for 13 years as a teacher and pastor of international churches. He later supervised the RCA’s mission programs in the Middle East and South Asia. A Northwestern graduate, Hubers earned a Master of Divinity degree from NBTS as well as a master’s degree in theology and a doctorate from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.
