Charlotte Richards, a Northwestern College senior religion major from Nevada, Iowa, has received a $3,500 Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship to enable her participation in the college’s Romania Semester this fall.
The scholarship program provides grants for undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens pursuing academic studies abroad. Such international study is intended to better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world. Recipients are chosen through a competitive selection process that considers factors such as academic standing and financial need. The congressionally funded program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the Department of State and is administered by the Institute of International Education.
Richards is among 10 students who will study in Northwestern’s Romania Semester through December. The students fly to the European county on Sept. 1.
