In addition to coaching, Rik Dahl serves as an instructor in the education department. He enjoys building relationships with students, extending grace, and encouraging them through life.
Successful coach
Throughout his 11 seasons as the head coach of Northwestern’s wrestling team, Coach Dahl has sent 55 Red Raiders to the NAIA national tournament and had six earn All-American status.
Men’s mentor
Along with Kris Korver, the men’s basketball coach, he started a Mondays for Men Bible study, where they encourage men to act biblically. Coach Dahl shares stories to help challenge men to become better versions of themselves.
Grateful alum
Coach Dahl’s time as a Northwestern student transformed who he was. An All-American wrestler for the Raiders, he says he was encouraged in his faith walk, his worldview changed, and his eyes were opened to Christ.
Family leader
At one point, he coached all three of his sons on Northwestern’s wrestling team. While it was harder for him than anticipated, he appreciated the unique opportunity to work with his sons on the mat each day. For a time, his oldest son, Eli, served as one of his assistant coaches.
Former principal
A former elementary teacher and high school principal, Coach Dahl shares that experience while teaching educational psychology, social studies methods and classroom management courses for Northwestern’s education department.
