Business-minded + ministry-minded

Mitchell knew he wanted to go into ministry but didn’t know what type. He chose the social enterprise major so he could broadly learn about and prepare for various types of ministry. He is minoring in biblical and theological studies, playing on the football team, and serving as a resident assistant. He initially chose Northwestern because he wanted a Christ-centered education, a place to play football, and because “Northwestern felt like home.”

Becoming
The faculty members in the social enterprise program are very passionate about this major. They want me to succeed and be all that God has created me to be. They know a lot about what they teach. When people ask what a social enterprise major is, my response is always that it is a mix of business and ministry, and I picked it because it is broad and I want to go into ministry but don’t know what type. Having a business mind in ministry can be good, as well as having a ministry mind in business.

Planning
After college, I plan to go into full-time ministry—whether that is pastoring at a church, working at a nonprofit, serving on the mission field or something else. My Northwestern education has prepared me so much for the future. I am greatly appreciative and blessed with the education I have received. I’ve been able to understand more of who God is and learn how to work with people on the business side of things. I am ready to be a man of God in a dark world because of the information and learning I have gained.

Connecting
Besides an education, I have gained an incredible number of friendships that are rooted in Jesus Christ—friendships that will be lifelong. I have grown in my relationship with the Lord in the most amazing ways. I have gained a love for people and the living, breathing word of God that I don’t think I would have gained if I had not attended Northwestern.
