The business of farming

Logan’s interest in agriculture began during summers spent on his grandparents’ farm. Northwestern is giving him the opportunity to major in agricultural business and accounting, participate in wrestling and intramurals, and serve as an academic tutor for his classmates. He is also active in Northwestern’s Future Generations of Agriculture Club and eventually plans to become an agricultural loan officer or accountant.

Feels like home
I chose Northwestern because it integrates faith with academics and athletics. I wanted to grow spiritually and get a high-quality education in agricultural business and accounting while also participating in wrestling. Northwestern doesn’t feel like a college or school. It feels like a community and home.

Generational impact
Growing up, I spent summers on my grandparents’ farm, working with and showing livestock. I always looked up to my grandparents and wanted to be a farmer like them, which has led me to pursue a career in agriculture.

A steward and businessman
Being an agricultural business major has taught me a lot about farming as a business and how I can be a better steward of the resources we are given. The knowledge I am acquiring through my major—like livestock management and other aspects of agriculture—is vital information I will one day use in my career.

Field trips
The Future Generations of Agriculture Club provides real-life, hands-on experience. I actively participate when a community speaker comes to campus and go on many of the agricultural field trips that the club provides. My best memory was getting to tour Dykstra Dairy with the Ag Club. Seeing and touring a large-scale dairy operation with friends and fellow club members was a blast—and I can’t forget the free and delicious ice cream at the end!
