Statistically relevant

A data science and statistics major, Liam chose Northwestern because he wanted an education within Christian community and because of the strong math program. He competes for the Raiders in track and field, serves as a speech fellow, and has been involved in discipleship groups.

Math + computers
Both mathematics and computer science have always interested me. I wanted to learn how these topics apply to the outside world. Data science with statistics is a great mix of the two topics and is highly employable. I was sold when I saw that it was a major at NWC.

Care-full faculty
The data science and statistics faculty all have a passion for the classes they teach. In a career field where they could make very large amounts of money outside of education, the faculty have chosen to teach because they desire to pass on this passion to others. My professors also show that they care, whether it be discussing class topics after class, being available for questions, or having conversations about future grad school options.

Math through the eyes of faith
Before I came to Northwestern, I never anticipated seeing God work in so many ways in mathematics. Hearing how professors who have been in the math field for decades have seen the Creator at work in math was absolutely eye opening. Also, writing papers about faith integration in courses like calculus or statistics pushed me to search for God in areas where I never thought to look.

Primed for the future
I feel very prepared for my future. Professors teach relevant topics that apply directly to careers. Northwestern’s work-study opportunities have helped me become more organized with my time and given me experience for my own future career.
