Kylie Foss

Future physician assistant

Kylie plans to become a physician assistant, helping patients with their overall wellness. A biology-health professions major, she chose to attend Northwestern because of the reputable biology program and small class size. She was also impressed by the coaches and players on the basketball team. An NAIA Scholar-Athlete, Kylie is also a peer tutor, part of the Pre-Health Professions Club, and in the Honors Program.

Challenge + support
The professors challenge us but also provide assistance when needed. They care about their students and want to see them succeed. The classes are thorough, and the professors are determined to ensure I understand every topic that is covered.

Teamwork within class
The small class sizes help students create relationships with each other. As biology students, it can be beneficial to study in a group so you can talk through processes and different concepts. And at the Student Success Center, you can ask students who have already taken the class any questions you have.

Faith + science
Often science and faith are thought to be in opposition to each other. However, throughout my studies at Northwestern, I have learned that the two can complement one another.

Prepping for the future
I’m looking forward to taking extra science courses that are of interest to me and will be beneficial in my future career—classes such as Pathophysiology and Biochemistry of Cancer. Many of the classes are challenging, but they effectively prepare students for graduate school and a career.

Final score
I have been challenged in a way that has not only enhanced my knowledge, but also taught me to continue working toward my goals until I achieve them. I have learned perseverance and dedication, which I will take into my future career and life.
