Coach Korver is known for his winning record, inspirational mantras (or “Korverisms”) and love for the Lord, the latter of which led him to join other coaches in offering a “Monday Mornings for Men” Bible study.
Winner
Coach Korver is Northwestern’s all-time winningest coach. Since joining the athletic department in 2001, he’s led his teams to two NAIA national titles and 18 trips to the national tournament. With a winning percentage over 70%, he ranks fifth in wins and second in winning percentage among active coaches in the NAIA.
Life coach
Coach Korver is known for his short, inspirational mantras—or “Korverisms”—that are full of wisdom for living. “Habits matter!” he tells his players. “In moments of extreme pressure, we will revert to our most deeply held and practiced habits.” He also follows Joshua 24:15 as he encourages his students and players to choose to serve God in all they do.
Men’s mentor
After realizing 50% of marriages are failing or have fallen apart, Coach Korver, along with others, started Monday Mornings for Men, a men’s Bible study that encourages males on campus to repair their hearts, rebuild their hope, and become who God wants them to be as men, husbands and fathers.
Northwestern alum
A 1992 Northwestern alumnus who played basketball for the Raiders, Coach Korver is also the son of NWC alumni and has plenty of ties to the college. With his parents, wife and oldest son having graduated from Northwestern, it’s no wonder he bleeds Raider red.
