Dana Sorenson

Lifelong student

An aspiring teacher, Dana transferred to Northwestern because she wanted to learn about theatre and education from a biblical point of view. She also valued the smaller student-to-faculty ratio and wanted to be part of a campus community where her professors saw her as “more than just a number.” Dana is involved in all aspects of Northwestern’s theatre program, including acting, directing and working on technical crews.

Best of all worlds
I am majoring in humanities because it allows me to connect all the areas I love: theatre, history and literature. A humanities major weaves all these areas together so I don’t have to choose just one thing to focus on. Instead, I get to keep learning and exploring.

Flexible fit
The humanities major is extremely flexible and allows you to piece together your passions. This major will look different for everyone, but its goal is the same—you’ll get to pursue your strengths while receiving a well-rounded education.

Excellent mentors
Every faculty member I’ve met from the humanities department has made me feel inspired to learn. Everyone is so passionate about their subject, and they invite their students to share in those passions. The humanities faculty have been excellent mentors to me—they know me and want to help me succeed.

Learning to love
One way Northwestern has strengthened my faith is by emphasizing 1 John 4:19: “We love because he first loved us.” Christ’s love is the reason why we get to learn, create, and explore our passions. Northwestern has encouraged me to use my God-given talents and love of learning to serve him and his people.
