Heumann interns at Grand Canyon State Games

Kristin Heumann of Chandler, Ariz.,  a junior physical education major at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, is serving as a summer intern at the Grand Canyon State Games in Tempe

Heumann is one of four interns working for the games this summer. Her duties include handling event registration, answering nutrition and fitness questions, and helping publish a weekly newsletter. In addition, Heumann works with the “Go the Distance” and “Lighten Up Arizona” programs, the fitness components of the games. She also has served as a site supervisor for track and field, swimming, and arm wrestling.

“I like being out at the sporting events. That is definitely the most rewarding and fun part of doing this job,” says Heumann. In addition, she has been impressed with the positive work environment and the large number of volunteers that make the games possible.

On campus, Heumann is president-elect of Northwestern’s Kinesiology Klub and has been an instructor for aerobics classes. The daughter of Rick and Julie Heumann plans on attending graduate school and then starting her own competitive jump rope team.
