Teams to participate in summer mission trips

Three Northwestern teams will seek to spread the gospel and serve others in the name of Christ this summer.

The volleyball team will travel to Brazil in May and June under the auspices of the Orphanos Foundation. The student-athletes will conduct volleyball camps, scrimmage against local teams and work with children at Lar Batista Biblico, an orphanage. They also will assist the foundation’s evangelistic efforts.

The women’s soccer team will spend 10 days in July in San José, Costa Rica, assisting the Nazarene Church’s Work and Witness ministry. The women will conduct youth camps and play two of Costa Rica’s top-ranked club teams. They also will be involved in construction projects at a seminary—helping build an area for medical treatments and working on student housing.

The wrestling team will minister through Christian Outreach International in the Czech Republic for two weeks in June. The wrestlers will practice and compete with area clubs and work with youth at schools, after-school programs and orphanages. They also will participate in a variety of service projects. This will be the third time the wrestling squad has gone on a mission trip to the Eastern Europe nation.
