Saturday, December 18, 2004
Dr. Scott Monsma, assistant professor of sociology, and five students are in Oman from Dec. 18-Jan. 5. The Northwestern group will spend time in the cities of Muscat, Sur and Nizwa, engaging in a dialogue about Islam, Arab culture and Omani culture.
Program discussions and activities will focus on Christianity and Islam, the modernization of Oman, cultural and religious diversity in Oman, and Western cultural influences on Omani culture.
Monsma has worked closely with Michael Bos, director of the Al Amana Center in Muscat, which is affiliated with the Reformed Church in America, in planning the Oman study abroad trip.
