Northwestern A cappella Choir to perform home concert

The Northwestern College A cappella Choir will cap a nine-day tour of Taiwan with a home concert Friday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The performance is free, and the public is invited to attend.

Directed by Dr. Thomas Holm, the 42-member ensemble gave concerts in Taipei and Hualien during their March spring break. The Northwestern students performed at middle and high schools, two seminaries, a university, several churches and a hospital. They also presented a workshop and master class for conductors.

The home concert will include a variety of the choir’s tour repertoire, including sacred music in both English and Latin; American spirituals and black gospel songs; and a Taiwanese folk song and popular Chinese love song.

The A cappella Choir’s tour was held in partnership with the National Presbyterian Church of Taiwan. It was arranged by Ming-Chen “Grace” Lo Rohrer, Northwestern’s international student counselor and a native of Taiwan. Rohrer served as the choir’s interpreter while the students were in Taiwan.

Holm, a member of Northwestern’s faculty since 2000, holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral music from the University of Illinois and Master of Music degrees from the University of Alberta and the University of Idaho. Active as a choir adjudicator and clinician, he also directs the Sioux County Oratorio Chorus.
