Projects sought for Day of Service

Orange City residents who could use some volunteer help this spring are encouraged to contact Northwestern College. The college will hold its third annual Day of Service on Saturday, April 16, and is currently soliciting projects.

Last year, students did work such as scraping paint, landscaping, cleaning and babysitting. More than 200 students participated, giving 800 hours of service.

Residents who would like assistance should contact Erin Currier, AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer coordinator at Northwestern, by March 21. She can be reached at 707-7296 or erin.currier@nwciowa.edu.

The April 16 event will include a lunch for the student volunteers and the community members with whom they work. The meal will be at Windmill Park, downtown Orange City, from noon to 1 p.m. The rain location will be in the basement of Iowa State Bank.

“Northwestern’s Day of Service is a way for our students to say ‘thank you’ to the Orange City community for their hospitality and support,” says Currier. “Our hope for this year is that more relationships are formed and that students are inspired to become involved long term with these community members, organizations and churches.”
