Students to attend Urbana missions conference

Twenty-four Northwestern College students will spend part of their Christmas break attending Urbana ’09, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship’s 22nd student missions conference, in St. Louis Dec. 27–31.

As many as 20,000 people are expected to participate in the conference, which will be held in the Edward Jones Dome. This year’s conference will have a special emphasis on international and domestic poverty. The speakers will include the leaders of Overseas Missionary Fellowship, the Bible Society of Egypt, and Latin American Theological Fellowship.

“Students usually come back from Urbana incredibly moved by what God’s doing around the world,” says Tommy Moon, Northwestern’s director of missions, who will also be attending. “My goals are that students will become aware of career possibilities in missions and also have their eyes opened to the needs around the world.”
