Chamber ensembles to perform
Wednesday, November 25, 2009
“This should be a fun concert with a great variety of music, including things from classical to ragtime,” says Dr. Timothy McGarvey, professor of music, who directs both ensembles. “I am looking forward to the performance of each ensemble because they have been preparing well.”
The Brass Quintet will perform six pieces. The ensemble will play The Royal Garden Blues by Jack Gale and Three Spirituals by Walter Barnes. Rusty Dedrick’s Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen, John Cheetham’s Scherzo and Victor Ewald’s Quintet in B Minor will also be featured. Members of the ensemble include Carolyn Dundas and Marilee Akland on trumpet, Rachel Schultz on horn, Matt Skelton on trombone and Zack Wolf on tuba.
The Saxophone Quartet will perform five pieces, including Quartet No. 2 by Ralph Miller, Sarabande and Air by G.F. Handel and Rondino by Frank Erickson. The concert will also feature Clément Janequin’s Three Madrigals for Four Saxophones and James Scott’s The Kings of Ragtime. Members of the Saxophone Quartet include Kelby Robinson and Brianna Ellis, alto sax; Suzanne Grebner, tenor sax; and Steve Ehlers, baritone sax.
