Students benefit from campus renovations

Northwestern College students will notice several campus improvements when they return for fall semester classes, which begin Aug. 26.
The biggest project was the replacement of the boiler and mechanical systems in Fern Smith Hall and the adjoining cafeteria. In addition to installing two boilers, workers replaced the hot water and water softening systems and the cafeteria’s air-conditioner.
The most visible improvement is campus landscaping, funded by a donor. New landscaping was completed on the north and east sides of Van Peursem Hall and at the entrances to Vermeer Dining Room and Fern Smith Hall.
Other summer improvements included adding offices for nursing faculty in Wiersma Cottage and an office in the academic support department, miscellaneous painting and carpeting projects, and tuck-pointing and wall repair in Christ Chapel.
