Dr. Ruth Dankanich Daumer, associate professor and chairperson of the department of nursing at Northwestern College, has been a presenter at two recent scholarly conferences.
She presented her current research, “Measuring the Health of Clergy: Development and Pilot Testing of the Daumer-Myers COPING Index,” at Phi and Zeta Zeta chapters of Sigma Theta Tau International Annual Research Conference on April 18 in Sioux Falls. Daumer’s pilot project tested a health risk appraisal developed specifically for clergy. She was assisted by her two Junior Scholars, Alexandra Anliker of Fullerton, Calif., and Brittany Osborn of Rapid City, S.D., both of whom are junior B.S.N. students at Northwestern.
Daumer also served as a keynote presenter at the Iowa Association for Healthcare Quality Educational Conference on April 8 in Des Moines. She spoke on “Bridging the Quality Chasm: Evidence-Based Practice Partnerships Between Academia and Health Care Settings.”
Daumer coordinates a parish nurse ministry at Faith Lutheran Church in Orange City and St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Ireton. Within her denomination she coordinates Health Advocacy, which encourages holistic health for professional church workers and their families in western Iowa. Regionally and nationally, she consults with other churches and denominations on faith–based health ministries and clergy health and consults with health organizations on research integration.
Daumer holds a doctorate in educational administration from the University of South Dakota. She earned a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Briar Cliff University. She is licensed as an advanced practice nurse/clinical specialist in community health nursing.
