Leadership Conference to feature Tony Campolo

The event, funded by Northwestern’s student development office, is free to NWC students. Approximately 300 students from Northwestern, Morningside College, Dordt College, the University of Sioux Falls and Northwestern College of St. Paul, Minn., will be attending.

Registration begins Friday, March 28, at 5:30 p.m. in the Bultman Center lobby. The opening banquet will take place in the Bultman Center gym at 6.30 p.m., followed by Campolo’s first keynote address at 7:45 p.m. in Christ Chapel. Dessert and entertainment are scheduled for 8:45 p.m. in The Hub at the Rowenhorst Student Center.

Saturday’s schedule will include worship and devotions at 9:45 a.m. Campolo will deliver a second keynote address, “Leading with Compassion,” at 10:15 a.m. in Christ Chapel. Three workshop sessions will be held throughout the day, with the conference’s closing session beginning at 3:30 p.m.

A limited number of seats for Campolo’s keynote sessions will be reserved for members of the public. Cost will be $3 per person; doors to the chapel will open 30 minutes before each session.

About 15 workshops will be offered, led by Northwestern faculty, staff and students; representatives of area nonprofit organizations; pastors; and staff members of the University of Sioux Falls and Dordt.

Campolo, professor emeritus of sociology at Eastern University and an ordained pastor, is the founder of the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education, an organization that develops schools and social programs in various Third World countries and in cities across North America. He is the author of 35 books, his latest three being Letters to a Young Evangelical, The God of Intimacy and Action and Red Letter Christians: A Citizen’s Guide to Faith and Politics.
