Theatre company to tour
Thursday, February 14, 2008
Northwestern College’s 10-member touring theatre company will perform Goliath and Other Foes, ancient Israelite dramas from the Old Testament, in the western United States during the college’s spring break, March 1–11. The tour includes performances at 11 churches, four schools and an assisted living center. Sites include Burnaby and Richmond, British Columbia, and the Washington communities of Auburn, Kent, Lynden, Nooksack, Oak Harbor, Prosser, Shoreline, Sunnyside, Yakima and Zillah. Visit www.nwciowa.edu/theatretour for performance times and details.
Ancient Israelite dramas by Jeff Barker, Northwestern playwright and Iowa’s 2006 Professor of the Year, explore the possibility that the Old Testament might be a book of plays.
Barker collaborates with Dr. Tom Boogaart, professor of Old Testament at Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Mich., to restore some of these ancient Israelite dramas to the stage. In addition to touring productions of Old Testament stories, Barker also has created David and Goliath and the original musicals And God Said and Terror Texts.
Northwestern’s touring theatre company has performed internationally, including off-Broadway in New York and at the Crystal Cathedral.
