Vocalist to present student recital

Northwestern College senior Heidi Ackerman of Phoenix, Ariz., will present a vocal recital on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The public is invited to attend; no admission will be charged.

Ackerman, a vocal performance and music education major, will perform six pieces. She will begin with a selection from Bach’s Cantata 170, Contented Rest, followed by Schumann’s A Woman’s Love and Life. She will also sing William Vollinger’s Acts of Kindness, Ben Moore’s I Am in Need of Music and On Music, and Make Our Garden Grow by Leonard Bernstein.

Ackerman will be accompanied by Lori Vande Brake, staff accompanist, for five pieces and by Dr. Kimberly Utke Svanoe, associate professor of music, for one. Ackerman is the student of Emily Lodine, lecturer in music.

At Northwestern, Ackerman is a sectional leader for the A cappella Choir and Heritage Singers and serves as a writing and voice class tutor. She has also been an ambassador in the admissions office and a discipleship group leader. Off campus, Ackerman studied for three weeks in England through a Northwestern summer study abroad class and spent 10 weeks in Italy through the college’s Summer of Service program.

Ackerman will be student teaching in Phoenix during the fall semester. She plans on pursuing graduate studies for opera and vocal performance next year.
