Northwestern theatre featured by Calvin Institute of Christian Worship

The efforts of Northwestern theatre professor Jeff Barker and his theatre students to re-story worship through drama were featured on the website of the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship in April.
The article, "Let Story Form Your Worship: Old Testament and Lectionary Dramas," details Barker's work with Western Theological Seminary professor Dr. Tom Bogaart, who believes the Old Testament may be a book of plays.
"There's a difference between hearing a solo storyteller and seeing a Bible story acted out," Barker is quoted as saying in the article. "Putting the text on its feet puts the Bible in the present."
The article goes on to say, "Enacted Bible stories often surprise worshipers into realizing that God is still speaking."
The Calvin Institute of Christian Worship promotes both the scholarly study of the theology, history and practice of Christian worship and the renewal of worship in churches across North America and beyond. The institute is located at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich.
