Professor and student speak at psychology conference

Dr. Laird Edman, associate professor of psychology at Northwestern College, and Amanda Gordon, a 2006 Northwestern alumna from Jenison, Mich., who majored in psychology and Spanish, presented results of their research at the annual conference of the American Psychological Association Aug. 11 in New Orleans.

Edman and Gordon spoke on "Cultural Differences in Emotional Intelligence," examining the constructs of emotional intelligence, tendencies toward collectivism or individualism, cultural identity, and ethnicity. The presentation resulted from research Gordon did for her senior thesis and while participating in a National Science Foundation-sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates program at Oklahoma State University last summer.
