Sally Edman named to national psychologists' committee

Dr. Sally Oakes Edman, director of Northwestern College’s counseling services, has been appointed to the Continuing Education in Psychology Committee of the American Psychological Association (APA). She will serve a three-year term.

In her new role, Edman and fellow committee members will oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of continuing education programs and products offered by the APA to licensed psychologists throughout the country. The committee also reviews and approves applications from organizations seeking to provide continuing education, and monitors such programs.

Licensed psychologists, required to obtain a minimum of 40 hours of continuing education every two years, can choose from a wide range of options, including independent study programs, workshops offered at the APA convention, and special programs.

Edman, who joined Northwestern’s counseling services staff in 2003, previously served as director of counseling at Waldorf College; clinical psychologist at a family practice medical clinic in Decorah, Iowa; and psychotherapist in a private practice in Forest City, Iowa. She also has served on the psychology faculty at Luther and Waldorf colleges.
