Having received my Master’s degree from Colorado Christian University, I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the State of Iowa and have over 30 years of counseling experience. My early clinical work was in residential treatment and agency settings providing services to children, teens, and families. In 1995, I began my private practice with Family Legacy Counseling in Johnston, IA, and for nearly 22 years this was my professional home, focusing my clinical work towards adults, groups, and couples.

On April 1st, 2017, I launched Second Journey Counseling in Johnston, IA along with my business partner and husband, Kent Schornack. I will continue to deliver professional care to those seeking counseling through this practice.  We look forward to developing a community of helping professionals who can deliver comprehensive, innovative, and holistic services to support individuals and couples through difficult seasons of life.

Foundational to my journey is my conviction that relationships are at the heart of change, and that one's life is a meaningful story, worthy of a contemplative read.  If you were to ask me how I would best describe the counseling experience, I would say it is inviting another to read your story with you.  In doing so you can gain perspective about past chapters, live mindfully in the present, and author redemptive chapters to come.

On a personal note, my greatest joy is being married to my husband, Kent and enjoying adventures with our adult sons and their wives.   I love travel, cheering on the ISU Cyclones, movies and books, and being in my kayak enjoying the solitude and beauty of nature.  My life is fortified by relationships with family, friends, and the most forgiving and enduring relationship of all…with God.
