George David Clark is the Olive B. O'Connor Fellow in Poetry at Colgate University. His other honors include the Provost's Doctoral Fellowship from Texas Tech University, the Henry Hoyns Fellowship from the University of Virginia, and the Guy Owen Prize from Southern Poetry Review.

Clark's dissertation "Reveille" centers on a series of morning songs addressed to the reader on the cusp of waking. The context allows for the poems to investigate the border territory between active and passive imagination. Notions of baptism and immolation are stressed by Clark as they represent experiences in which individuals are figuratively "woken" and "transformed."
