Theatre Faculty

Northwestern College invites applications for a full-time faculty position (open rank, tenure-track) in theatre to begin August 2026. We seek a collaborative artist, experienced in the areas of theatre history, playwriting and/or dramatic criticism with a passionate interest in teaching and pursuing artistic scholarship in these areas. Our future colleague will bring enthusiasm, experience and commitment to our well-established and well-supported program. We are open to candidates at all stages of their academic careers.

Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate specializes in theatre history, dramatic criticism, performance studies, playwriting or directing, although we welcome applications from all candidates holding a terminal degree (Ph.D. or M.F.A.) in any subfield. Highly qualified ABD candidates will also receive full consideration. The successful candidate will demonstrate a keen ability to connect with our vibrant undergraduate students, sustain an active program of scholarship, contribute to the life of the institution through faculty committees and other co-curricular service, and embrace the liberal arts as a vital expression of Christ’s redemptive work in the world.

Preferred Qualifications: Our new co-artist can expect to direct in our season and teach courses primarily in the areas of history, theory and criticism. Dependent upon the candidate’s areas of interest, other courses may include Dramatic Literature, Playwriting, First Year Seminar, Senior Seminar, Film Aesthetics and Criticism, or courses in our worship arts major.
