Northwestern to host theatre camp for high school students

Northwestern College will host a theatre camp for high school students interested in a variety of theatrical roles from July 6–9. The camp is open to students entering grades 9–12 and costs $250 per student, which covers room and board and access to campus facilities. (Camp fees are 100 percent refundable if social distancing guidelines prevent the camp from taking place.)

Campers will begin each day with warm-up drama games before attending workshops on theatre skills such as acting, stage movement and costume design. In the afternoon, students will be directed in improv and scene work. Camp participants will live together with college mentors in Northwestern’s residence halls and eat in the college’s cafeteria.

“I loved doing improv and trying out different characters in scenes with other theatre kids from across the U.S.,” says Gideon Fynaardt, Alton, Iowa, who attended the camp the past two summers. “I also got to experiment with parts of theatre I didn’t get the chance to try in high school, like sound design and graphic projections.”
