RUSH student dance concert to be held at Northwestern

Students performing in RUSH dance concertNorthwestern College’s annual student dance concert, RUSH, will return to the stage in March with seven performances: Thursday, March 22, at 7 and 9:30 p.m.; Friday, March 23, at 7 and 9:30 p.m.; and Saturday, March 24, at 4, 7 and 9:30 p.m. in the England Proscenium Theatre of the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center.

This year’s concert will include 10 student-choreographed dances in numerous styles, including contemporary hip-hop; Taiwanese pop; swing/hop; modern; jazz; modern, contemporary ballet; and tap. More than 100 students—both with and without prior dancing experience—are participating in the show.

“Every year, every group, every RUSH is new and fresh. Each concert is as unique as the ensemble of dancers and artists who make up the event,” says Drew Schmidt, assistant professor of theatre and RUSH artistic director and faculty producer. “This year, for example, we have a tap dance, a style we’ve never had in my time here.”

Tickets for RUSH are $1, with all proceeds going to next year’s production of the concert. RUSH ticket requests must be made via email at boxoffice@nwciowa.edu. Tickets will go on sale for Northwestern Theatre Patrons on Monday, March 12, at 4 p.m. and for the general public on Wednesday, March 14, at 4 p.m.
